CURRENTLY EVERYTHING IS TEST DATA. DON'T OVER-INTERPRET WHAT YOU SEE ON THE MAP.
The map area shows what a specific character can currently see and has previously seen. Around the map you can find:
Hover over text and symbols for more information and learn what happens when a symbol is clicked.
Click the gear button () in the upper right of the main page to show the settings page again.
Pressing the Escape key () in the upper left of the keyboard will clear temporary information from the map, cancel or end some actions, and close pages over the map (such as this page). Please complain whenever the Escape key doesn't clear the appropriate item
If the page isn't displaying correctly click the reload button () in the upper right to fetch map data again, press the F5 key for a page reload, or press Control-Shift-R for a hard browser reload. Please report the circumstances and which operations helped solve the problem.
The map view is a combination of what can currently be seen by the character and memories of what has been seen in the past. The future isn't shown. Anything not currently seen is dimmer than what can currently be seen. Eventually there will be a way to suggest how to improve the distinction between past and present.
The map view presents information other than the viewed area.
Actions to the right of the map can control which information is displayed.
The map display is the current view and memory of one character. Characters can travel independently or group together in packs (but each will still have a different view).
Packs are formed by characters following other character, and packs are split when a follow is cancelled. The character list on the right of the interface shows which characters are in packs. Click the pack icon () to show the details of who is following who.
A move or jump request by any player in a pack moves the entire pack.
A character Name/Key token must be entered on the settings page to view a map.
The map view can be changed in several ways:
Change the zoom level of the map with the zoom buttons or zoom slider below the map, with keyboard commands, or with a scroll wheel (if enabled in the viewer settings).
Various actions are activated by right-clicking on the map to bring up a context menu. Menu items can be activated with the mouse and some have keyboard shortcuts. Double-clicking on the map sends a move request.

I'm sorry this page is a bit incomplete as it was mostly written before the user interface. It will probably be updated sometime. Please report any errors or omissions.

The entire display implementation has been changed. Much is similar, but every aspect has changed to some degree. Please restest everything. Pretend your character's life will depend on the map program working (because it will).
Testing features that won't be part of a final UI have been moved to the top of the window.
New features added: Keyboard commands; Accelerators on the context menu; Zoom control with a scroll wheel; Annotations (map context menu); Pack view (click a pack symbol on the right); Double-click to send a move request; Actions on the character list; Lights list; More actions in several areas; Server status; Improvements to direct psychic control; Purple art and annotations; AFK mode and sign off; Temporarily blocking lines, boxes, and circles drawn by other characters.
See the full help for a little more information.
Examples of lights, walls, doors, and curtains are on the left edge of a loaded map near the top. Comments are encouraged, but the final color decisions will happen after testing with live maps from the server.
The viewer isn't connected to a server, but some of the code thinks there is a server and display messages talking about the server. If a dropped light appears in the wrong place blame the server.
